Loews Coronado Bay Resort
July 8, 2006

Every corner of the casually elegant seaside wedding of Annemarie Blodgett and Jarrod Frahm was touched with sand and beautiful seashells. The indigo and ivory beach-themed summer wedding was held at the fabulous Loews Coronado Bay Resort in sunny Coronado, Calif., which is a favorite place of the bride and groom where they had celebrated on many occasions.

The view overlooking the water of the Pacific Ocean and the Coronado Bay bridge was an elegant backdrop as they exchanged rings and said traditional Catholic vows to signify the commitment they were making to each other. The bride’s stunning wedding band was comprised of 12 diamonds of both her mother and father’s rings worn during their 35 years of happy marriage and both the bride and groom’s rings were tied into blue pockets inserted into beautiful seashells from Hawaii. A hurricane candle was burning in honor of their grandparents who had passed away.

The bride’s apron-backed Oleg Cassini dress was embroidered and beaded to look like waves and seashells. And in keeping with the festive tradition of “something borrowed, something blue,” the bride attached both of their initials in blue crystals to the bottom of her wedding shoes. Something old was the pearl ring that her grandfather had given to her grandmother on one of their first wedding anniversaries, and something new was her dress. Her great grandmother’s handkerchief was sentimentally pinned to her underskirt.

Another touching ritual was when the bride and groom united their families by joining indigo and ivory sand as the bride’s cousin sang a very special song accompanied on the guitar by a friend of the groom.

As the bride and groom took to the dance floor to kick off their reception on the outdoor terrace, they were surrounded by hundreds of bright white sparklers. Place cards for guests were cleverly handwritten on large sand dollars, and the centerpieces were filled with sea anemones, sand, and hydrangeas. To honor the surfer groom, their reception tables were named after his favorite surf spots. Their cake featured white chocolate seashells topped with two starfish, and the hor d’oeuvre table had a carved ice sculpture of a surfer riding a wave.

The couple has a longstanding joke about how lobsters mate for life and they have always called each other their lobster; so, to top off their beach themed wedding, the guests went home with chocolate shells and lobsters.

From the night they got engaged on Christmas Eve and all throughout the planning, there was not one nervous moment. They enjoyed it all!
