The Connect: Both were attending grad school at UCSD when they met.

The Proposal: On Joe’s second trip to China with Carrie, he brought the ring along with him and proposed to her the day before the couple returned to the U.S.

The Celebration: Since almost everyone coming to the wedding was from out of town, the wedding took on a destination feel. They chose the Scripps Seaside Forum, since it overlooked the beach of their first date, for the beautiful ocean views their guests could enjoy. The couple used hues of reds and golds to enhance the beauty of the contemporary forum. Since Carrie’s parents are from China and do not speak English, they had friends interpreting the evening events for them but you could still see the joy in their eyes which needed no interpretation.

Carrie’s Advice: “Always listen to each other.”
